{"id":19589,"date":"2021-06-29T15:46:21","date_gmt":"2021-06-29T15:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=19589"},"modified":"2026-04-23T18:07:42","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:07:42","slug":"manila-extends-general-community-quarantine-until-july-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/manila-extends-general-community-quarantine-until-july-15","title":{"rendered":"Manila extends general community quarantine until July 15"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Philippine president, Rodrigo Duterte, has announced that general community quarantine (GCQ) in Manila, including at the Entertainment City casino resort zone, will remain until July 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines.- Metro Manila will remain under the\u00a0<strong>general community quarantine (GCQ)\u00a0<\/strong>until<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>July 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current countermeasures were supposed to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/manila-general-community-quarantine-extended-until-june-30\">end on June 30<\/a>,\u00a0but authorities have decided to extend them. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/sp-expects-philippines-economy-to-rebound-in-2022\">Casinos<\/a>\u00a0in Metro Manila\u00a0<strong>were allowed to resume operating\u00a0<\/strong>at a reduced capacity in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Rodrigo Duterte is pushing for\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/the-philippines-urges-quick-approval-of-new-pogos-tax\">approval of Senate Bill 2232<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>under which Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) must pay<strong>\u00a05 per cent tax on their gross gaming revenue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pogo-tax-payments-rise-11-7-in-2020\">POGOs<\/a>\u00a0brought in\u00a0<strong>US$149.4m in tax payments last year<\/strong>\u00a0despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting departure of many firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Pia Cayetano, who sponsors the new bill said\u00a0their<strong>\u00a0potential was much bigger<\/strong>\u00a0and that the government could have collected more than Php6.43bn (US$133.8m) in 2019 alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Philipines back on FATF \u201cgrey list\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/the-philippines-placed-on-fatf-grey-list-again\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Financial Action Task Force (FATF)<\/a>, the Paris-based inter-governmental agency that monitors controls on anti-money laundering and terrorist financing, has placed&nbsp;<strong>the Philippines&nbsp;<\/strong>back on its \u201cgrey list\u201d of untrustworthy jurisdictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite new legislation in the Philippines, the FATF said the country needs to introduce more controls over risks associated with junket operators.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>FATF<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>previously grey-listed the Philippines in 2000<\/strong>&nbsp;for failing to address money-laundering issues.
