According to Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd, the Melco entertainment complex in Zhongshan could help the company retain its gaming concession in Macau’s 2022 retender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Macau.- Melco International has announced a partnership with Agile Group Holdings Ltd to develop a\u00a0non-gaming complex in Zhongshan<\/strong>, in China’s Guangdong province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\u00a0RMB4bn ($616m) complex<\/strong>, slated for completion by 2025,\u00a0will feature a theme park, office areas, hotels, service flats, wellness centres and malls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to\u00a0Sanford C. Bernstein<\/strong>, the complex\u00a0will benefit Melco Resorts<\/strong>\u00a0with several longer-term impacts since it displays the company’s commitment to developing non-gaming in the greater Macau area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Anal”should help its positioning concerning\u00a0Macau gaming concession rebidding<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Macau\u2019s current casino licences will expire in June 2022<\/strong> but could be extended for up to five years under the city\u2019s gaming laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are different opinions regarding possible changes to the licence criteria<\/strong>. Some have suggested Macau<\/a> should include requirements to promote the diversification of Macau\u2019s economy to avoid it being so highly dependant on tourism and the casino industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sanford C. Bernstein analysts stated: \u201cWhile the project will not open before 2025, once in place, it can provide a co-marketing opportunity for Melco Resorts casino properties in Macau.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
