{"id":19321,"date":"2021-06-23T15:26:47","date_gmt":"2021-06-23T15:26:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=19321"},"modified":"2026-04-23T18:18:05","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:18:05","slug":"australia-acma-to-develop-gambling-self-exclusion-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/australia-acma-to-develop-gambling-self-exclusion-register","title":{"rendered":"Australia: ACMA to develop gambling self-exclusion register"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Australian authority ACMA will develop a National Self-Exclusion Register to let people self-exclude from all licensed interactive gaming providers in a single process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.- In another step to help people who are dealing with gambling addiction problems, the<strong>\u00a0Australian Communications and Media Authority<\/strong>\u00a0(<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/australia-to-block-4-unlicensed-gambling-sites\">ACMA<\/a>) has announced that it has engaged Engine Australia to develop a National Self-Exclusion Register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Players will be able to exclude from licensed online and telephone betting services\u00a0<\/strong>for three months or permanently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to ACMA,\u00a0<strong>providers will be prohibited from directly advertising<\/strong>\u00a0and promoting to any self-excluded person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nerida O\u2019Loughlin<\/strong>, ACMA chair, said: &#8220;The register will make a difference for people who want help changing their gambling habits and will complement existing consumer protection measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If you choose to self-exclude, this register will ensure your account is closed, your money returned, and<strong>&nbsp;no further advertising or promotion activity will be directed your way.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said that ACMA will engage the\u00a0<strong>interactive wagering industry\u00a0<\/strong>on the design of the system and the rules around the operation of the register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator will also work with consumers and advocacy groups to ensure that<strong>\u00a0the register meets the needs of users<\/strong>, and will put in place robust privacy safeguards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engine Australia will start developing the system, which is expected to be tested later this year and launched by mid-2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other responsible gambling measures, The\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/south-australia-gaming-rooms-to-test-facial-recognition-technology\">South Australian government<\/a>\u00a0has approved\u00a0<strong>eight facial recognition systems<\/strong> for testing.
