{"id":19281,"date":"2021-06-22T15:32:08","date_gmt":"2021-06-22T15:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=19281"},"modified":"2026-04-23T18:21:05","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:21:05","slug":"hk-macau-travel-bubble-to-go-ahead-if-hk-reaches-28-covid-19-free-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hk-macau-travel-bubble-to-go-ahead-if-hk-reaches-28-covid-19-free-days","title":{"rendered":"HK-Macau travel bubble to go ahead if HK reaches 28 Covid-19 free days"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Macau authorities have stated that a travel bubble with Hong Kong will be possible once Hong Kong has gone at least 28 days without any new Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.-\u00a0<strong>Alvis Lo lek Long<\/strong>, Macau Health Bureau director, has said that a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-hong-kong-travel-bubble-could-start-later-in-the-summer\">travel bubble<\/a>\u00a0between Hong Kong and Macau could be contemplated once Hong Kong passes <strong>28 days without a local Covid-19 case<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities had previously said Hong Kong should reach 14 consecutive days without a new Covid-19 case to <strong>start talks about a travel bubble\u00a0<\/strong>but it seems the opinion has changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once travel between\u00a0<strong>Hong Kong and Macau<\/strong>\u00a0is finally allowed, it is expected Macau will only allow vaccinated people to enter the city, showing a negative Covid-19 test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A travel bubble between Macau and Hong Kong is vital for Macau&#8217;s economic recovery as\u00a0<strong>Hong Kong provides 10 to 15 per cent\u00a0<\/strong>of Macau\u2019s annual casino gross gaming revenue (GGR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now,\u00a0<strong>mainland China<\/strong>\u00a0is the only country to have a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/covid-19-vaccine-passports-could-speed-up-macau-tourism-recovery\">largely quarantine-free travel bubble<\/a>\u00a0with Macau. However, the number of tourists was affected by a rise in Covid-19 cases in Guangdong province during the first weeks of June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-to-continue-easing-controls-with-guangdong-province\">Macau authorities<\/a>\u00a0are now considering\u00a0<strong>easing restrictions<\/strong>\u00a0on travellers from Guangdong amid a\u00a0<strong>decline in the number of new Covid-19 cases.<\/strong> They have already announced that people coming from<strong>\u00a0Shenzhen city and Maoming city<\/strong>\u00a0no longer need to undergo\u00a0<strong>a 14-day quarantine<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the vaccination rate in Hong Kong,\u00a0<strong>24.2 per cent of people have received a first dose<\/strong>. It\u2019s a slower rollout than in some other countries, such as Singapore, where 47.3 per cent of people have been vaccinated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hong Kong shortens quarantine for fully vaccinated travellers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The obligatory quarantine for\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hong-kong-to-shorten-quarantine-to-7-days-for-vaccinated-visitors\">those arriving in Hong Kong<\/a>\u00a0will be reduced to seven days for those who have been vaccinated and passed an antibody test, and who are not coming from high-risk countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Bloomberg, the change will depend on trials of antibody tests that are currently underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Countries deemed high risk<\/strong>&nbsp;include Japan, the US and the UK. Visitors from&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/casinos-in-goa-and-sikkim-to-remain-closed-until-june-14\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">countries like India<\/a>&nbsp;that are catalogued as \u201cextremely high risk\u201d are not allowed to enter Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/manila-general-community-quarantine-extended-until-june-30\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Philippines<\/a>&nbsp;is also catalogued as \u201cextremely high risk\u201d.
