As Covid-19 cases continue to decline in Guangdong, Macau authorities are considering easing restrictions for travellers.

Macau.- Macau authorities are considering easing restrictions on travellers from Guangdong amid a decline in the number of new Covid-19 cases.

Macau has already announced that people coming from Shenzhen city and Maoming city no longer need to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

Macau resumed Covid-19 countermeasures in casinos as a result of a rise in cases in the neighbouring province.

According to Macao News, Leong Iek Hou, Health Bureau’s disease control coordinator, said the government would constantly assess the Covid-19 risk to Macau from Guangdong before deciding whether to relax its current Covid-19 restrictions.

Leong Iek Hou also referred to the possibility of relaxation with Hong Kong and said it would be gradually implemented with limits on the numbers of travellers.

Last week, Hong Kong authorities announced that fully vaccinated travellers will only have to undergo a seven-day quarantine instead of the current 21 days.

Currently, travellers must undergo a 21-day quarantine even if they are fully vaccinated. However, authorities plan to cut that to 7 days for some visitors. It’s not yet clear when the new policy will come into effect.

According to Bloomberg, the change will depend on trials of antibody tests that are currently underway.

Last September, Macau’s chief executive, Ho Iat Seng, said the travel bubble between Macau and Hong Kong would be possible once Hong Kong reported zero Covid-19 cases. As Hong Kong hasn’t reported a local case since June 8, that criterion appears to have been reached.
