Authorities are planning to restructure the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, adding more gaming inspectors and an extra director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.- The government continues to eye changes to Macau’s gaming industry. With\u00a0amendments to Macau\u2019s current gaming law<\/a> on the way, authorities also want to\u00a0improve the efficiency\u00a0<\/strong>of controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau\u2019s Executive Council has drawn up a draft proposal that seeks to restructure the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) to\u00a0increase the number of gaming inspectors from 192 to 459<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amendment also proposes adding an extra\u00a0director of the DICJ<\/strong> to better develop tasks related to the coordination of the divisions within the bureau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amendment could be approved in the following days. It will take effect a day after it is published in Macau\u2019s Official Gazette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current DICJ director,\u00a0Adriano Marques Ho<\/a>, was appointed in May to replace\u00a0Paulo Martins Chan<\/a>\u00a0after he resigned from the position<\/strong>. Ho started his term on June 10 and will remain DICJ director for two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of his main tasks is to analyse Macau\u2019s gaming licence criteria<\/a>\u00a0and gaming laws as\u00a0Macau\u2019s current casino licences are due to expire in June 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proposed changes in Macau<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Macau legislators<\/a> want an assessment of the current six gaming licensees\u2019 performance and behaviour over the last twenty years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to local media, government officials listened to legislators\u2019 suggestions on changes to the licence criteria <\/strong>to include requirements for operators to invest in the diversification of Macau\u2019s economy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, some analysts believe\u00a0Macau<\/a>\u00a0should consider turning to technology and online gambling to maintain revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A report entitled \u201cThe economic impact of a global pandemic on the tourism economy:\u00a0the case of COVID-19 and Macao\u2019s destination- and gambling-dependent economy<\/strong>\u201d suggests state casino operators should turn to online gambling and technology to recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report suggests casino operators should \u201cleverage on the technological advances<\/strong> brought by the Industrial Revolution 4.0, such as virtual reality, to deliver a revamped online gambling experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It states that online gambling combined with virtual reality could be effective to\u00a0curb gambling addiction<\/strong>\u00a0and could boost casino operators\u2019 revenue amid uncertainty about\u00a0possible new Covid-19 waves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
