The state of Uttar Pradesh is considering introducing penalties for online gambling and increasing those for gambling in public places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
India.- Following recommendations made by\u00a0the State Law Commission<\/strong>, Uttar Pradesh is considering new penalties for gambling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath<\/strong>\u00a0has presented the Uttar Pradesh State Gaming Bill, which includes new regulations for online gambling, although it exempts online games of skill, whether they’re played for stakes or otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the draft,\u00a0online gambling would be punishable by up to three years in prison. Games of skill such as rummy, bridge and other card games, would not be punishable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The State Law Commission has also suggested increasing penalties for\u00a0gambling in public places<\/strong>, proposing fines of RS$5,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Currently, the state of\u00a0<\/strong>Uttar Pradesh penalises gambling in a public place\u00a0<\/strong>with three months of prison and a fine of RS$50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\u00a0new gaming bill will have to be approved by the state cabinet\u00a0<\/strong>and then passed by both houses of legislature and and the Governor before becoming law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other Indian states that have already taken measures against online gambling <\/strong>include Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu<\/a>, which have already banned all forms of gaming that involve stakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\u00a0southern state of Kerala\u00a0<\/strong>also decided to\u00a0ban online rummy<\/a>\u00a0in March.
