However, authorities warned Macau residents to<strong>\u00a0avoid travelling to the cities of Guangzhou and Foshan<\/strong>, where Covid-19 cases remain high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A week ago,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-tightens-controls-amid-rise-in-covid-19-cases-in-guangdong\">Macau health authorities<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>imposed a\u00a0<strong>14-day quarantine\u00a0<\/strong>on people who had been in the districts of Haizhu, Liwan, Nansha, Panyu or Yuexiu in Guangzhou, or the Nanhai and Chancheng districts of Foshan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-down-35-in-second-week-of-june\">Macau&#8217;s GGR during the second week of June<\/a>\u00a0was down 35 per cent month-on-month to MOP219m (US$27.3m). That compares to\u00a0<strong>MOP1.35bn (US$169m) in the first week of June.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau\u2019s Gross Gaming Revenue\u00a0in May reached\u00a0MOP10.45bn (US$1.31bn), fueled by the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-received-165500-visitors-arrivals-over-labour-day-break\">Labour Day break<\/a>, when Macau\u2019s Public Security Police reported that\u00a0165,500 tourists came to Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, according to Macau\u2019s Public Security Police,\u00a0between June 12 and June 14, <strong>only 40,400 tourists arrived in Macau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mainland China<\/strong>\u00a0is the only country to have a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/covid-19-vaccine-passports-could-speed-up-macau-tourism-recovery\">largely quarantine-free travel bubble<\/a>\u00a0with Macau, and the majority of tourists who have come to the city in recent months are from Guangdong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Covid-19 cases are descending, the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-to-resume-covid-19-countermeasures\">countermeasures imposed at Macau&#8217;s casinos<\/a>\u00a0and other tourism venues will continue for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People who enter casinos\u00a0<strong>must wear masks and have their temperature checked<\/strong>. They also have to\u00a0present the Macao Health Code,\u00a0the government document that classifies health status by colour: red, yellow, and green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Macau expects to start a travel bubble with Hong Kong from July<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If Covid-19 cases remain under control in Hong Kong, the long-awaited\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-hong-kong-travel-bubble-could-start-later-in-the-summer\">travel bubble<\/a>\u00a0between Hong Kong and Macau<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>could be launched from July, according to Bernstein Research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hong Kong is\u00a0<strong>one of the key outbound markets for Macau\u2019s gaming industry<\/strong>\u00a0as it provides 10 to 15 per cent of Macau\u2019s annual casino gross gaming revenue (GGR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts said: \u201cA travel bubble encompassing China\/Hong Kong and Macau would be<strong>\u00a0a key driver for growth<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-to-drop-30-in-june-analysts-say\">Bernstein<\/a>&nbsp;has recently predicted&nbsp;Macau\u2019s GGR for June will be down&nbsp;30 per cent month-on-month to 72 per cent of 2019 levels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 14-day quarantine is no longer required for people coming from Shenzhen city and Maoming city in Guangdong.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":17857,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau is partially easing COVID-19 quarantine restrictions for arrivals from Shenzhen and Maoming, Guangdong, while maintaining warnings for Guangzhou and Foshan.
