In the first five months of the year, <strong>Macau recorded MOP15.63bn in tax revenue <\/strong>from the gaming industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to its budget plan, <strong>Macau&#8217;s government hopes to collect MOP50.01bn in taxes for the year 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-24-3-in-may\">Macau\u2019s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR)<\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>reached<strong>&nbsp;MOP10.45bn (US$1.31bn)<\/strong>&nbsp;in May, making it the <strong>highest monthly revenue<\/strong>&nbsp;since the Covid-19 pandemic started. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-24-3-in-may\">Macau\u2019s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR)<\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>reached<strong>&nbsp;MOP10.45bn (US$1.31bn)<\/strong>&nbsp;in May, making it the <strong>highest monthly revenue<\/strong>&nbsp;since the Covid-19 pandemic started. The number was an increase of <strong>492.2 per cent year-on-year<\/strong> and 24.3 per cent from April, when&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-1-01-in-april\">GGR was MOP10.4bn (US$1.3bn)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aggregate&nbsp;<strong>casino GGR for the first five months of the year<\/strong>&nbsp;totalled MOP42.49bn, up 29 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>May\u2019s numbers were fueled by the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-received-165500-visitors-arrivals-over-labour-day-break\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Labour Day break<\/a>, when Macau\u2019s Public Security Police reported that&nbsp;<strong>165,500 tourists came to Macau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Macau casinos affected by rise in Covid-19 cases<\/strong> in <strong>Guangdong<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent weeks,&nbsp;<strong>Macau has felt the impact of the rise in Covid-19 cases in Guangdong<\/strong>. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-to-resume-covid-19-countermeasures\">Macau authorities<\/a>&nbsp;have ordered casino operators to reintroduce safety measures at their venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People who enter the casinos&nbsp;<strong>must wear masks and have their temperature checked<\/strong>. They also have to&nbsp;<strong>present the Macao Health Code,&nbsp;<\/strong>the government document that classifies health status by colour: red, yellow, and green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the new measures,&nbsp;<strong>holders whose Macao Health Code is red or yellow will be denied admission<\/strong>&nbsp;to casinos and other venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other venues covered by the countermeasure<\/strong> include hotels and guest houses, restaurants, bars, karaoke lounges, nightclubs, saunas, massage parlours and health clubs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the situation seems to be controlled,&nbsp;<strong>the government fears the low rate of vaccination could lead to a rise in Covid-19 cases<\/strong>&nbsp;in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lo Iek Long<\/strong>, Macau Health Bureau Director, is analysing if it would be necessary, and possible, to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-considers-mass-testing-due-to-covid-19-cases-in-guangdong\">carry out mass testing<\/a> in Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said&nbsp;<strong>650,000 residents could be tested within four days&nbsp;<\/strong>and that he was seriously thinking about moving forward with the measure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Macau\u2019s government collected MOP3.25bn (US$406.5m) in tax revenue from the gaming industry in May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":17385,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's gaming industry generated MOP3.25bn in tax revenue and MOP10.45bn in GGR for May, marking the highest monthly GGR since the pandemic, driven by the Labour Day holiday.
