The relocated casino has finally opened its doors at Jeju Dream Tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

South Korea.- the\u00a0Jeju Dream Tower casino<\/a>\u00a0has finally opened it doors today (Friday June 11) after passing a\u00a0final inspection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jeju Dream Tower casino has 5,367 square metres (57,770 sq. feet) of gaming floor<\/strong><\/strong>. It has 141 game tables<\/strong>\u00a0offering five types of table game,\u00a0190 slot machines, and 71 electronic gaming machines.\u00a0<\/strong>It also includes an ETG master table. The\u00a0previous venue had 27 just tables and 51 machines<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawrence Teo<\/strong>, chief operating officer, referred to the lack of tourists due to the Covid-19 pandemic but said he was confident casino sales will generate about KRW30-40bn (US$27-36m) a month<\/strong>, mainly from foreigners living in Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are only\u00a0three casinos on Jeju island currently operating<\/a>, the others being Paradise Casino Jeju Grand and\u00a0Landing Casino.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The casinos are struggling owing to the lack of tourism due to\u00a0the Covid-19 pandemic<\/strong>. South Korea\u2019s foreigner-only\u00a0casino operators\u00a0<\/strong>depend almost entirely on the arrival of tourists. During the first two months of 2021 combined,\u00a0tourist arrivals to South Korea were down 93.7 per cent<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, casinos on Jeju island<\/a> together saw sales decline by 63.6 per cent year-on-year<\/strong> 2020 to KRW69.30bn (US$61.5m)<\/strong>. That compares to sales of KRW190.0bn (US$168.7m)<\/strong> in 2019, before the global Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government postponed\u00a0the deadline for South Korean casinos to pay their sales taxes<\/a>. Casino operators must\u00a0pay a tax of around 10 per cent on sales\u00a0<\/strong>twice each year, in June and September.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
