{"id":18721,"date":"2021-06-07T16:45:20","date_gmt":"2021-06-07T16:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=18721"},"modified":"2026-04-23T18:49:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:49:29","slug":"macau-ggr-to-drop-30-in-june-analysts-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-to-drop-30-in-june-analysts-say","title":{"rendered":"Macau GGR to drop 30% in June, analysts say"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Bernstein Research predicts that Macau&#8217;s GGR will decline in June due to a new surge in Covid-19 cases in Guandong province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- Despite showing an improvement last month,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-24-3-in-may\">Macau&#8217;s GGR<\/a>\u00a0is likely to drop again in June Bernstein Research has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau saw gross gambling revenue of MOP10.45bn (US$1.31bn) in May, up 24.3 per cent compared with April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Bernstein predicts <strong>GGR for June will be down<\/strong> 30 per cent month-on-month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the first week of June, GGR was MOP1.35bn (US$169m). However, recent news about a<strong>\u00a0rise in Covid-19 cases in Guangdong\u00a0<\/strong>could affect the arrival of tourists to the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The majority of the city\u2019s visitors come from mainland China, which remains the only country to have a largely<strong>&nbsp;quarantine-free travel bubble<\/strong>&nbsp;with Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts added<strong>&nbsp;that Macau\u2019s GGR is usually weak in June<\/strong>&nbsp;when compared to other months. They expect a further recovery within July and August during the summer holiday period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Morgan Stanley&nbsp;<\/strong>also cut its forecast for&nbsp;<strong>Macau gross gaming revenue (GGR) this year by 19 per cent<\/strong>&nbsp;to US$16.3bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, analysts had said&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-to-reach-us23-6bn-in-2021-analysts-say\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau GGR<\/a>&nbsp;could reach&nbsp;<strong>MOP189bn (US$23.6bn)<\/strong>, about 65 per cent of GGR in 2019.
