Tourism services are expected to be impacted by the new measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The government of Macau has announced<strong>&nbsp;it will implement quarantine measures for arrivals from Guangdong&nbsp;<\/strong>after new Covid-19 cases were registered in recent weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Macau health authorities have imposed a 14-day quarantine\u00a0<\/strong>on people who have been in the districts of Haizhu, Liwan, Nansha, Panyu or Yuexiu in Guangzhou, or the Nanhai and Chancheng districts of Foshan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government announced\u00a0<strong>those who had been in Guangzhou or Foshan within the previous 14 days are required to undergo a nucleic acid test<\/strong>. From June 8, people who want to enter Macau from Guandong must show a Covid-19 negative test issued within 48 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The news was received with<strong>\u00a0some unease from the tourism sector<\/strong>. <strong>Mainland China<\/strong>\u00a0is the only country to have a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/covid-19-vaccine-passports-could-speed-up-macau-tourism-recovery\">largely quarantine-free travel bubble<\/a>\u00a0with Macau, and the majority of tourists who have come to the city in recent months are from Guandong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts noted that <strong>Guandong is also a gateway to other provinces<\/strong>\u00a0as more than 90 per cent of mainlanders enter Macau through Guandong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Andy Wu Keng Kuong<\/strong> of the Macau Travel Industry Council said it was difficult to make any forecasts. She said: \u201cWhat we hope for now is that the\u00a0<strong>spread of infection could be quickly curbed in Guangdong.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between May 31 and June 6,<strong>\u00a0tourist entries and exits declined by 22.6 per cent\u00a0<\/strong>to an average of 40,000 visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the recent spread of Covid-19 cases,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/morgan-stanley-cuts-forecast-for-macau-ggr\">Morgan Stanley<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>has cut its forecast for\u00a0<strong>Macau gross gaming revenue (GGR) this year by 19 per cent<\/strong>\u00a0to US$16.3bn. That<strong>\u00a0would be just 45 per cent of 2019 levels<\/strong>, but it would an improvement of 115.4 per cent when compared to 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, analysts had said\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-to-reach-us23-6bn-in-2021-analysts-say\">Macau GGR<\/a>\u00a0could reach\u00a0<strong>MOP189bn (US$23.6bn)<\/strong>, about 65 per cent of GGR reported in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for corporate<strong>&nbsp;EBITDA, analysts estimate US$2.89bn<\/strong>, down 37 per cent from its previous prediction of nearly US$4.6bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgan Stanley said: \u201cInvestors are waiting for Macau revenue\/profit to normalise, which n<strong>eeds the reinstatement of the mainland\u2019s electronic application system for Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) exit visas<\/strong>, the resumption of group visas, and Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau reopening.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Macau has tightened restrictions in response to new cases of Covid-19 in Guandong.
