Cui Li Jie, Imperial Pacific International’s chairwoman, has resigned due to \u201cpersonal time constraints.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Northern Mariana Islands.-\u00a0Imperial Pacific International (IPI)\u00a0<\/strong>has announced the\u00a0departure of its chairwoman and executive director<\/strong>, Cui Li Jie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a release from the company,\u00a0Cui Li Jie\u00a0<\/strong>took the decision to stand down due to \u201cpersonal time constraints.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January,\u00a0the company<\/a>\u00a0and its chairwoman Cui Li Jie were found in contempt of court after Jie and former CEO Donald Browne was ordered to\u00a0appear at federal court<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0an inquiry related to a lawsuit brought by the US Department of Labor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time,\u00a0Cui Li Jie blamed her lawyer and her lack of understanding of English. <\/strong>She said she was poorly represented in court by her lawyer, Juan T. Lizama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The Guam Daily Post,\u00a0attorney Aaron Halegua<\/strong>, who represents seven Chinese construction workers who have sued IPI, says Cui’s explanation “is\u00a0unlikely to absolve her from a finding of civil contempt<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halegua added: “Attempt to\u00a0place all blame on Mr. Lizama falls flat\u00a0<\/strong>due to her own pattern of obstructionist and disobedient behaviour.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“While Ms. Cui <\/strong>states that she has ‘been honest and cooperative in complying with the court’s orders and requests of the plaintiffs,’ this assertion is contradicted by the record <\/strong>in this case.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IPI’s gaming licence<\/a>\u00a0has been suspended indefinitely\u00a0<\/strong>as the operator failed to comply with regulatory orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Commonwealth Casino Commission board has ordered IPI to pay a penalty of US$6.6m<\/strong>, an annual casino exclusive licence fee of US$15.5m and annual casino regulatory fees of US$3.1m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to local media\u00a0Tiberius Mocanu<\/strong>, IPI counsel, the\u00a0company still has to review the order<\/strong>. CCC board chair Edward C. DeLeon Guerrero said the gaming licence suspension will last until the company settles its outstanding payments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However,\u00a0the company has appealed against the decision<\/a>, and the\u00a0CCC commissioners has agreed to make a technical amendment<\/strong>\u00a0to the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Saipan Tribune newspaper, assistant attorney general Michael Ernest, counsel for CCC executive director Andrew Yeom, reported a technical error in the CCC board\u2019s order against IPI<\/strong>.
