{"id":18607,"date":"2021-06-03T15:31:43","date_gmt":"2021-06-03T15:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=18607"},"modified":"2026-04-23T18:55:48","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:55:48","slug":"grand-korea-leisure-posts-sales-of-us9-2m-in-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/grand-korea-leisure-posts-sales-of-us9-2m-in-may","title":{"rendered":"Grand Korea Leisure posts sales of US$9.2m in May"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) has reported KRW10.18bn (US$9.2m) in sales for May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>South Korea.- The South Korean operator of foreigner-only casinos&nbsp;<strong>Grand Korea Leisure (GKL)<\/strong>&nbsp;has reported<strong>&nbsp;that casino sales grew by 15.3 per cent&nbsp;<\/strong>month-on-month in May to KRW10.18bn (US$9.2m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When compared to the previous year,&nbsp;<strong>GKL casino sales were down by 1.7 per cent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for table games,\u00a0<strong>GKL reported sales of nearly KRW8.27bn<\/strong>, up 13.7 per cent when compared with the previous month. It was also up 2.4 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Machine game sales grew 22.4 per cent<\/strong>\u00a0from KRW1.56bn to KRW1.91bn. However, when compared to the previous year, machine game sales were down 16.3 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/gkl-casino-sales-for-april-up-48-month-on-month\">Grand Korea Leisure<\/a>\u00a0had reported sales of KRW8.83bn (US$7.9m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>GKL sales during the first five months were down 78.9 per cent<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Grand Korea Leisure reported\u00a0that <strong>casino sales for the first five months of the year 2021 were KRW25.47bn<\/strong>, down 78.9 per cent when compared to the first five months of the year 2020, when sales were nearly RW120.59bn.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Table games aggregate sales&nbsp;<\/strong>from January to May were down 80.6 per cent year-on-year to KRW20.93bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for <strong>machine games<\/strong>, GKL reported sales of KRW4.54bn,\u00a0<strong>down 64.8 per cent<\/strong>\u00a0when compared to the previous year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GKL\u00a0reported<strong>\u00a0a net loss for the first quarter of KRW37.43bn (US$33.4m)<\/strong>. That compares to a net loss in the fourth quarter of 2020 of KRW32.71bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It also reported an operating loss of KRW46.64bn<\/strong>&nbsp;compared to an operating profit of KRW26.92bn in the same quarter last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The casino operator&nbsp;<strong>suspended all of activities in November 2020&nbsp;<\/strong>due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Seven Luck Casino Busan Lotte in Busan reopened in February, while the operator\u2019s&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/grand-korea-leisure-reopens-seoul-casinos\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seoul venues reopened<\/a>&nbsp;in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May,\u00a0<strong>The Millenium Hilton Seoul Hotel<\/strong>, which hosted\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/south-korea-gkl-casino-venue-to-be-demolished-after-sale\">Grand Korea Leisure\u2019s Seven Luck casino<\/a>\u00a0was to be demolished following its sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The venue was sold to&nbsp;<strong>Aegis Asset Management<\/strong>, a domestic real estate fund manager, due to the impact of the&nbsp;<strong>Covid-19 pandemic on tourism.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aegis plans to<strong>&nbsp;build an office building on the site,&nbsp;<\/strong>but it has not yet revealed more details.
