The state government has decided to extend Covid-19 countermeasures in Goa until June 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

India.- Authorities in Goa have\u00a0extended the state\u2019s Covid-19 countermeasures\u00a0<\/strong>for a further four days. The latest period of closure was\u00a0to end on May 31<\/strong> but has been extended until June 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casinos in Goa<\/a>\u00a0have been\u00a0closed since April 29<\/strong>\u00a0as India suffers a huge rate of Covid-19 cases.\u00a0The Ministry of Health has reported\u00a0132,788 new cases in the last 24 hours<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under current restrictions,\u00a0only essential services are allowed<\/strong>. Goa\u2019s casinos must remain closed, along with gyms, colleges, schools and bars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restaurants, pharmacies and medical stories can operate from 7am to 7pm, while liquor and food stores are allowed to operate from 7am to 1pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goa’s casino operators<\/a>\u00a0have been deeply affected by the measures. Last month, Delta Corp asked authorities for\u00a0a waiver on licence fees\u00a0<\/strong>due to the impact on its venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta Corp reported that it is debt-free and has adequate liquidity available<\/strong>\u00a0to comply with its liabilities and obligations, but management asked the state government of Goa for a\u00a0reduced payment mechanism for its casino licence fees<\/strong>\u00a0for the period from April 2020 to October 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India seeks to change the valuation of casinos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Indian federal government<\/a> is seeking to change the valuation of casinos, online gambling portals and racecourses for levying goods and services tax (GST).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Business Standard newspaper, a seven-member panel of state ministers <\/strong>has started to examine the possibility of changing the way gambling services<\/strong> are valued for the tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The terms of reference (ToR) say the group of state ministers will \u201cexamine the issue of valuation of services provided by casinos, racecourses, and online gaming portals<\/strong> and taxability of certain transactions in a casino, about the current legal provisions and orders of courts.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
