That&#8217;s an increase of 24.3 per cent from April, when\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-1-01-in-april\">GGR was MOP10.4bn (US$1.3bn)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GGR was also\u00a0<strong>up 492.2 per cent year-on-year\u00a0<\/strong>and was the\u00a0<strong>highest monthly revenue<\/strong>\u00a0since the Covid-19 pandemic started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aggregate\u00a0<strong>casino GGR for the first five months of the year<\/strong> totals MOP42.49bn, up 29 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>May&#8217;s numbers were fueled by the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-received-165500-visitors-arrivals-over-labour-day-break\">Labour Day break<\/a>, when Macau\u2019s Public Security Police reported that\u00a0<strong>165,500 tourists came to Macau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Macau Government Tourism Office,&nbsp;<strong>the first day of the Labour Day break set the highest daily volume of visitors<\/strong>&nbsp;since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, with 44,000&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-receives-99568-tourists-during-first-week-of-april\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrivals<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-hits-us563m-for-first-nine-days-of-may\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau\u2019s GGR<\/a>&nbsp;for the first nine days of May, including the Labour Day break, reached an&nbsp;<strong>average daily rate of MOP500m (US$75m)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the\u00a0Labour Day break, Macau hotels and guest houses registered an<strong>\u00a0occupancy rate of 83.2 per cent<\/strong>. According to the MGTO, the rate\u00a0<strong>was 34.6 percentage points better<\/strong>\u00a0than that seen during the Chinese New Year holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Morgan Stanley predicts Macau GGR in 2021 will reach US$16.3bn<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the improvement in the last three months,\u00a0<strong>Morgan Stanley\u00a0<\/strong>has cut its forecast for\u00a0<strong>Macau gross gaming revenue (GGR) this year by 19 per cent<\/strong>\u00a0to US$16.3bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, analysts had said\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-to-reach-us23-6bn-in-2021-analysts-say\">Macau GGR<\/a>\u00a0could reach\u00a0<strong>MOP189bn (US$23.6bn)<\/strong>, about 65 per cent of GGR in 2019.
