{"id":18414,"date":"2021-05-28T15:42:59","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T15:42:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=18414"},"modified":"2026-04-23T19:06:04","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T22:06:04","slug":"macau-hotel-guests-up-550-3-in-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-hotel-guests-up-550-3-in-april","title":{"rendered":"Macau hotel guests up 550.3% in April"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Macau Statistics and Census Bureau has reported that the average occupancy rate at Macau hotels was up 550.3 per cent when compared to last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that&nbsp;<strong>694,000 tourists checked into Macau hotels &amp; guesthouses<\/strong>&nbsp;in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number was\u00a0<strong>up 550.3 per cent year-on-year<\/strong>\u00a0for hotes, while the guestrooms rate increased 59 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DSEC also reported that&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-visitor-arrivals-up-5-3-in-april\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau registered 794,819 visitor arrivals in April<\/a>, up 5.3 per cent from March and<strong>&nbsp;7,000 per cent year-on-year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The majority of the city&#8217;s visitors came from mainland China, which remains the only country to have a largely<strong>\u00a0quarantine-free travel bubble<\/strong>\u00a0with Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the city has resumed&nbsp;<strong>14-day quarantine for travellers<\/strong>&nbsp;from one district in Guangdong province due to a rise in Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the first four months of the year, the\u00a0<strong>average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 48.4 per cent<\/strong>, while the number of guests of hotels and guesthouses grew to 2,148,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Macau recorded a total of 2.53 million visitor arrivals<\/strong>\u00a0for the<strong>\u00a0first three months\u00a0<\/strong>of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Census and Statistics Service has reported that the<strong>&nbsp;total spending of visitors (excluding gaming expenses) increased by 23.5 per cent<\/strong>&nbsp;year-on-year to MOP6.18bn in the first quarter of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities also revealed<strong>\u00a0that the total spending of overnight visitors rose by 48.0 per cent year-on-year\u00a0<\/strong>to MOP5.59bn, while that of same-day visitors dropped by 52.1 per cent to MOP589m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes<\/strong>, Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) director, said Macau expects a<strong>\u00a0daily visitor tally of over 30,000 during the summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Macau GGR could reach US$16.3bn in 2021, analysts say<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Morgan Stanley&nbsp;<\/strong>has cut its forecast for&nbsp;<strong>Macau gross gaming revenue (GGR) this year by 19 per cent<\/strong>&nbsp;to US$16.3bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, analysts had said&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-to-reach-us23-6bn-in-2021-analysts-say\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau GGR<\/a>&nbsp;could reach&nbsp;<strong>MOP189bn (US$23.6bn)<\/strong>, about 65 per cent of GGR reported in 2019. However, the banking group now thinks it will reach just&nbsp;<strong>MOP130.19bn (US$16.3bn)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That<strong>&nbsp;would be just 45 per cent of 2019 levels<\/strong>, but it would an improvement of 115.4 per cent when compared to 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgan Stanley said it had<strong>&nbsp;revised its previous forecast due to the new rise in Covid-19 cases in Asia<\/strong>&nbsp;and the delay in easing travel restrictions between Hong Kong and Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for corporate<strong>&nbsp;EBITDA, analysts estimate US$2.89bn<\/strong>, down 37 per cent from its previous prediction of nearly US$4.6bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgan Stanley said: \u201cInvestors are waiting for Macau revenue\/profit to normalise, which n<strong>eeds the reinstatement of the mainland\u2019s electronic application system for Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) exit visas<\/strong>, the resumption of group visas, and Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau reopening.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Macau Statistics and Census Bureau has reported that the average occupancy rate at Macau hotels was up 550.3 per cent when compared to last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":18415,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's tourism sector demonstrated significant year-on-year recovery in April, with hotel occupancy and visitor arrivals surging, primarily from mainland China, despite new quarantine measures for a Guangdong district.
