{"id":18373,"date":"2021-05-27T14:37:36","date_gmt":"2021-05-27T14:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=18373"},"modified":"2026-04-23T19:08:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T22:08:33","slug":"kangwon-land-could-see-earnings-improve-in-2022-analysts-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/kangwon-land-could-see-earnings-improve-in-2022-analysts-say","title":{"rendered":"Kangwon Land could see earnings improve in 2022, analysts say"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tourism arrivals, a higher vaccination rate and the end of social restrictions soon could help Kangwon Land grow next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>South Korea.- Despite a weak performance during the first quarter of 2021,<strong>\u00a0Kangwon Land expects to see a better performance<\/strong>\u00a0for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to\u00a0<strong>Shinhan Investment Corp<\/strong>, the South Korean casino could see a\u00a0<strong>gradual recovery during 2021 and 2022<\/strong>\u00a0as\u00a0<strong>social distancing rules are eased\u00a0<\/strong>following a rise in the vaccination rate in South Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kangwon Land has been seeing nearly<strong>\u00a02,000 daily average visitors but the number could grow to 8,000 visitors\u00a0<\/strong>if the Covid-19 vaccine rate increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shinhan Investment Corp said Kangwon Land had been allowed to\u00a0<strong>increase betting limits on 20 gaming tables<\/strong>, a measure that should provide the casino operator with additional growth in sales from the second quarter of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Business Korea, analysts think the\u00a0<strong>gaming revenue cap could rise by 5 per cent and 7\u00a0<\/strong>per cent between 2020 and 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Kangwon Land reports losses for the first quarter<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/kangwon-land-sales-down-58-7-in-q1\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kangwon Land<\/a>&nbsp;reported a net loss of KRW40.9bn (US$36.6m) for the first quarter of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sales were down 25.8 per cent from the last quarter of 2020<\/strong>, mainly due to a Covid-19 lockdown during the first part of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kangwon Land&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>gaming sales reached KRW85.4bn<\/strong>, which represents a decline of 57.3 per cent from KRW200bn in the same period last year, while GGR from mass tables was KRW38bn, down 62.7 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for&nbsp;<strong>slot machine GGR,&nbsp;<\/strong>Kangwon Land has reported KRW32.6bn in revenue for the first quarter, down 62.7 per cent from the same period in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During 2020, visits to&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/south-korean-casinos-visits-down-71-3-in-2020\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">South Korean casinos<\/a>&nbsp;declined by&nbsp;<strong>71.3 per cent year-on-year<\/strong>&nbsp;to 1,760,232 in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Korea\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>16 foreigner-only casinos have been deeply affected&nbsp;<\/strong>by the lack of tourists, recording a&nbsp;<strong>58.8 decline in casino turnover&nbsp;<\/strong>from KRW1.45tn to KRW597.8bn in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only<strong>&nbsp;17,502,756 tourists visited South Korea in 2020&nbsp;<\/strong>due to ongoing Covid-19 countermeasures, an 85.6 per cent decline when compared to 2019, when 2,519,118 tourists arrived in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tourism arrivals, a higher vaccination rate and the end of social restrictions soon could help Kangwon Land grow next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":18391,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Kangwon Land anticipates a gradual recovery in 2021-2022, driven by increased vaccination rates, eased social restrictions, and a recent uplift in betting limits on 20 gaming tables.
