He expects\u00a0<strong>sales could reach around PHP5bn<\/strong> next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De Leon said that <strong>online betting on horseracing has grown<\/strong>\u00a0from 3 per cent of total sales last year\u00a0<strong>to 18 per cent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, he said the Philippines government should <strong>introduce some changes in taxes<\/strong>\u00a0for the horseracing industry. Currently, <strong>Philippines horseracing pays a 29.5 per cent tax\u00a0<\/strong>on total sales, the highest rate in Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Horseracing will\u00a0<strong>continue to be held without spectators <\/strong>for now, although people can watch races via various platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Horseracing experiences a renaissance in Japan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Japan has also seen a rise in\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/online-betting-boosts-horseracing-bets-in-japan\">horseracing<\/a>\u00a0sales with proceeds increasing 30.1 per cent in the fiscal year 2020 to JPY912.29bn (US$8.4bn), the highest in nearly 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are more than 21,000 horse races held each year in Japan.
