Crown Resorts<\/a> that Crown sought to delay the introduction of tighter money-laundering controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\nCremona said the Victorian regulator gave the casino 11 months to comply with 20 recommendations <\/strong>but that a year later, in July 2019, Crown Resorts had made no move to start recording high roller<\/strong>s’<\/strong> names and transactions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nHe said that when questioned, Crown executives told him they were meeting representatives from the federal financial security agency AUSTRAC<\/strong> to discuss the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\nHowever, when Cremona spoke with AUSTRAC<\/strong>, the agency told him they had been working with Crown to broaden anti-money laundering policy but not about recording data on high rollers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nCremona then sent a letter to Crown’s chief legal officer Joshua Preston<\/strong> to say the casino was at risk of not complying with the recommended protocol.<\/p>\n\n\n\nHe then received a phone call from Crown executive Michelle Fielding<\/strong> saying Preston was “furious” and that he was going to “call the minister to complain.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nFederal Court judge Raymond Finkelstein<\/strong>, who is leading the Royal Commission, asked Cremona if he felt Crown was hoping the VCGLR would drop the requirement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nCremna replied: “Yes to an extent. I was pretty solid in my position… there was no evidence Crown was taking any action<\/strong> to address recommendation in line with our expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nHe said he believed Crown Resorts was trying to delay recording the names of all high rollers<\/strong> because the casino operator was afraid they might stop gambling at Crown Melbourne<\/strong>.
