{"id":17573,"date":"2021-05-05T16:40:10","date_gmt":"2021-05-05T16:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=17573"},"modified":"2026-04-23T19:47:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T22:47:03","slug":"india-cleaner-arrested-for-pitch-siding-for-illegal-betting-sindicate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/india-cleaner-arrested-for-pitch-siding-for-illegal-betting-sindicate","title":{"rendered":"India: cleaner arrested for &#8220;pitch-siding&#8221; for illegal betting syndicate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In a separate incident, two bookmakers were arrested for allegedly entering a stadium with fake accreditation cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>India.- A cleaner was arrested after\u00a0<strong>police found he was &#8220;pitch-siding&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 taking advantage of the delay between live sports action and its television broadcast to place bets \u2013 during an\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/india-3-people-busted-over-illegal-cricket-betting-in-guntur\">IPL match<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Times of India newspaper, an\u00a0<strong>Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) officer found the cleaner talking by phone in a secluded area<\/strong>\u00a0during an <strong>IPL match\u00a0<\/strong>between Rajasthan Royals and SunRisers Hyderabad on May 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the<strong>\u00a0officer asked the cleaner what he was doing<\/strong>, the man told him he was talking to his girlfriend, but when the officer asked him to dial the number he was talking to,\u00a0<strong>the suspect tried to escape leaving behind his two mobile phones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ACU officer immediately reported the incident to the Delhi Police. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a separate incident, officers arrested<strong>\u00a0two people for entering Delhi\u2019s Feroz Shah Kotla ground\u00a0<\/strong>with fake accreditation cards during the IPL match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit chief said: &#8220;<strong>These people managed to get access to Kotla<\/strong>. The one who fled came in the garb of a cleaner. However, we have all his details as he was employed for the tournament.
