Macau has reported gross gambling revenue of MOP$8.4bn (US$1.05bn) for April, up 1.01 per cent when compared with the previous month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.- Gross gambling revenue <\/strong>continues to improve, climbing 1.01 per cent month-on-month to MOP$8.4bn (US$1.05bn).<\/strong> GGR for March had been MOP$8.3bn (US$1.04bn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau<\/strong>\u2018s figures show that Macau\u2019s GGR for the first four months of 2021 <\/strong>combined stands at MOP$32bn, up 2.6 per cent year-on-year <\/strong>from MOP$31.24bn in the first fourth months of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though the numbers are encouraging, Macau GGR is still far from pre-pandemic levels<\/strong>, remaining down 64 per cent compared to 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the\u00a0Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO),\u00a0<\/strong>a total of\u00a0760,000 tourists arrived in Macau<\/a>\u00a0in April, with 34,353 on April 16, the highest daily number since the Covid-19 pandemic began until this week’s Labour Day break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ambrose So Shu Fai<\/strong>, vice-chairman of Macau casino operator SJM Holdings Ltd, Macau GGR <\/a>could continue to grow in May thanks to the Labour Day break which started on May 1 and will last until May 5. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hong Kong<\/a> has recently announced it will allow non-residents<\/strong> from Guangdong province and Macau to enter Hong Kong without undergoing quarantine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Macau authorities have said a travel bubble with Hong Kong will not be possible<\/strong> until the latter registers no local infections for 14 consecutive days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to local media, Hong Kong reported two cases of Covid-19 on Sunday <\/strong>and 129 cases in the last fourteen days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
