{"id":17394,"date":"2021-04-29T15:16:06","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T15:16:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=17394"},"modified":"2026-04-23T19:56:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T22:56:59","slug":"macau-hotel-guests-up-160-2-in-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-hotel-guests-up-160-2-in-march","title":{"rendered":"Macau hotel guests up 160.2% in March"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Macau Statistics and Census Bureau has reported that the average occupancy rate at Macau hotels was up 16.9 per cent from the previous month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that&nbsp;<strong>622,000 tourists checked into Macau hotels &amp; guesthouses<\/strong>&nbsp;in March, up 160.2 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The DSEC also reported&nbsp;that <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-visitor-arrivals-up-255-4-in-march\">754,541 tourists came to Macau<\/a> in March, <strong>up 255.4 per cent from March 2020<\/strong>, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, and up 76.6 per cent from February 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The average occupancy rate of guest rooms stood at 55.3 per cent<\/strong>, which represents a growth of 16.9 per cent compared with February 2021 and 31.1 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the <strong>first quarter of 2021<\/strong>, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 44.9 per cent, with the<strong>&nbsp;number of guests of hotels &amp; guesthouses dropping by 1.2 per cent&nbsp;<\/strong>year-on-year to 1,454,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The numbers are encouraging as&nbsp;<strong>Macau&#8217;s hotels and casino operators prepare for the Labour Day break<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) deputy director Cheng Wai Tong has forecast that&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-occupancy-rate-could-reach-80-during-labour-day-break\">Macau could see a hotel occupancy rate<\/a>&nbsp;of between&nbsp;<strong>70 per cent to 80 per cent<\/strong>&nbsp;over the Labour Day holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Casino operators hope the rise in tourists arrivals might be reflected in a <strong>stronger daily gross gaming revenue (GGR)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to SJM Holdings Ltd,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-daily-ggr-could-reach-us50m-during-labour-day-break\">Macau\u2019s daily GGR<\/a>&nbsp;could reach MOP400m (US$50m) during the&nbsp;<strong>first days of May<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Macau Statistics and Census Bureau has reported that the average occupancy rate at Macau hotels was up 16.9 per cent from the previous month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's tourism sector demonstrated significant recovery in March 2021, with hotel occupancy rates and tourist arrivals showing substantial year-on-year and month-on-month growth.
