The ACMA has asked Australian internet service providers to block 4 gambling sites that were operating illegally in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has asked Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to\u00a0block four unlicensed offshore gambling websites<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The offshore gambling sites<\/strong> listed are: Ozwin Casino, Bao Casino, Reels of Joy and Pokie Place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ACMA started investigating the sites after\u00a0receiving numerous complaints<\/strong>\u00a0and found that the websites were\u00a0operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ACMA began to\u00a0block unlicensed gambling sites in Australia in November 2019<\/strong>. Since then, it has blocked\u00a0263 gambling websites<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authority began enforcing new illegal offshore gambling rules in 2017 and\u00a0has since pulled over 130 services off the Australian market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Online gambling sites gained popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic<\/a>. According to AlphaBeta, there was a\u00a067 per cent increase in online gambling in Australia between March and April 2020<\/strong>, despite the activity being unlicensed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although\u00a0online casinos are prohibited in Australia under the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act<\/a>, playing at online casinos in Australia is not illegal and operators still offer services to Australian gamblers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
