Macau.- Taxes on the gaming industry generated MOP$3.21bn (US$402m)<\/strong> in revenue for Macau in January, a drop of 63.6 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GGR for January came in at MOP8.02bn (US$1bn), down 63.7 per cent compared with January 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Financial Services Bureau reported that only 6.2 per cent of the government’s 2021 budget came from gaming revenue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city\u2019s casinos were affected by an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases<\/strong> in mainland China at the start of the year and advice against travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Total revenue in January came to MOP$4.34bn (US$543m), comprising 74.3 per cent of all government revenues<\/strong> in the first month of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau’s GGR declined<\/strong><\/a><\/em> to MOP$7.31bn (US$914.5m)<\/strong> in February, compared to MOP8.02bn (US$1.0bn) in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitor numbers for Chinese New Year were down by 76 per cent year-on-year <\/strong>after the Chinese government recommended against travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
