The other 31 people charged were his employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Taichung District Prosecutors Office <strong>charged all 32 with gambling, engaging in organised criminal activity<\/strong>, and tax evasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigators allege that Chuang was behind a group called Xinliwang that owned 12 companies that had been operating an <strong>online gambling platform called GPK Bet<\/strong> since 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They said that GPK Bet involved <strong>532 online gambling sites and 54 online gambling system <\/strong>providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities said Chuang and his company<strong> earned an illicit profit of more than NT$59.4bn <\/strong>and evaded taxes of around NT$266m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Incoming and outgoing funds were handled in part through<strong> 843 dummy accounts in China<\/strong>, which has <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-continues-to-target-cross-border-gambling\" target=\"_blank\">strict rules against gambling<\/a><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>32 people including a Taiwanese billionaire have been charged with running an online gambling platform and engaging in money laundering.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":15449,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Taiwanese prosecutors have charged 32 individuals, including Xinliwang International Holdings Company chairman Chuang Chou-wen, for allegedly operating an illicit online gambling platform, GPK Bet, valued at over US$2.13bn.
