{"id":15333,"date":"2021-03-01T15:29:20","date_gmt":"2021-03-01T15:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=15333"},"modified":"2026-04-23T21:28:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T00:28:38","slug":"vietnam-casinos-ask-government-to-let-locals-gamble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/vietnam-casinos-ask-government-to-let-locals-gamble","title":{"rendered":"Vietnam: casinos ask government to let locals gamble"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Vietnamese citizens are allowed to enter only two casinos and must pass strict criteria in order to do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Vietnam.- <strong>Operators in Vietnam have asked the government to ease the rules on locals entering casinos <\/strong>in order to boost revenue lost as a result of <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/vietnam-tourist-arrivals-down-76-year-on-year\" target=\"_blank\">travel restrictions<\/a><\/em><\/strong> imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of <strong>casino owners has launched a petition<\/strong> <strong>calling on authorities allow Vietnamese citizens to enter casinos<\/strong> in major tourism destinations such as <strong>Quang Nam and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The casinos normally depend on foreign gamblers, meaning that <strong>revenues have plummeted<\/strong> due to ongoing restrictions on entry to the country from abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tight restrictions on Vietnamese gamblers <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At present, <strong>citizens are only permitted to enter into two casinos:<\/strong> one on the southern island of Phu Quoc and the other in Van Don in the northern province of Quang Ninh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has tight restrictions in place on who can enter the properties: <strong>they must be aged over 21 and earn a minimum of VND$10m (US$430) a month<\/strong>.
