{"id":15022,"date":"2021-02-22T13:32:35","date_gmt":"2021-02-22T13:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=15022"},"modified":"2026-04-23T21:39:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T00:39:14","slug":"royal-commission-to-probe-crown-melbourne-suitability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/royal-commission-to-probe-crown-melbourne-suitability","title":{"rendered":"Royal Commission to probe Crown Melbourne suitability"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The state of Victoria has announced it will establish a Royal Commission into the Crown Melbourne casino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.- The state government of Victoria is to launch a royal commission to decide if Crown Resorts is suitable to maintain its licence for its <strong>Melbourne casino<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Melissa Horne, Victoria\u2019s minister for liquor and gaming regulation, decided the move was <strong>the most appropriate response<\/strong> to failings identified in New South Wales&#8217; inquiry into the casino operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Royal Commission will be chaired by former Federal Court judge Raymond Finkelstein QC and will aim to report back to the Victorian government<strong> by August 1<\/strong> and no later than the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, <strong>Crown Melbourne will continue to operate<\/strong> \u201cbut within the context of the Royal Commission examining its suitability.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government also wants to establish an independent casino regulator to advise on <strong>structural and governance arrangements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Crown Executive Chairman Helen Coonan said: \u201cCrown welcomes the announcement from the Victorian Government as <strong>it provides an opportunity to detail the reforms and changes to our business<\/strong> to deliver the highest standards of governance and compliance, and an organizational culture that meets community expectations.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The news comes after Harold Mitchell, a non-executive director, resigned from Crown Resorts following the departures of <strong>Guy Jalland, Michael Johnston, Andrew Demetriou<\/strong>, <strong>Mary Manos<\/strong> and former CEO and managing director <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/crown-resorts-ceo-resigns\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Ken Barton<\/strong><\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The state of Victoria has announced it will establish a Royal Commission into the Crown Melbourne casino.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":15027,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The Victorian government has initiated a Royal Commission into Crown Melbourne to assess its suitability to retain its casino license, following identified failings in a New South Wales inquiry.
