Thailand.- The Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha, <\/strong>has denied allegations<\/strong> that he has links with illegal gambling dens in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The allegations were made by the leader of the opposition Pheu Thai Party, Sompong Amornvivat<\/strong>, in a parliamentary debate on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opposition leader claimed that Thailand’s top official directly received benefits from illegal gambling <\/strong>and said that his party would expose irregularities in the country’s administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Prime Minister Chan-o-cha said: “To those who accused me of receiving benefits, I insist that I never received a single baht. I don’t want any involvement with dirty money. I will receive only my lawful benefits.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Thai government has launched\u00a0three new sub-committees<\/strong>\u00a0that will aim to tackle the country\u2019s\u00a0illegal gambling dens<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, which have been signalled as a\u00a0major source of Covid-19<\/strong>\u00a0infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, a special panel<\/a><\/em><\/strong> linked<\/strong>\u00a0ten police officers and provincial government administrative officials to two gambling dens in the coastal city of Rayong.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prime minister added: “I believe past and present governments try to do their best. But nowadays, gambling and related offences are becoming more complicated.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
