{"id":1466,"date":"2019-12-10T14:54:33","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T14:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=1466"},"modified":"2026-04-24T09:33:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T12:33:27","slug":"portugal-regulation-gambling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/portugal-regulation-gambling","title":{"rendered":"Portugal grants another online gaming licence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Portugal\u2019s gambling regulator has approved two new licences to Malta-headquartered Caravel Entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Portugal.- Comiss\u00e3o de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal, IP, the entity in charge of issuing gambling licences to operators in Portugal, has decided to grant two new licences to Caravel Entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Servi\u00e7o Regula\u00e7\u00e3o e Inspe\u00e7\u00e3o de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ), the gambling regulator from Portugal, revealed that at a meeting held on November 11, 2019, the board decided to issue to Caravel Entertainment Limited&nbsp;a licence to operate sports betting in the country, where the consumer played against the operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second licence to Caravel is for games of chance, such as blackjack, roulette and slots, SRIJ said. Caravel will be able to operate those games and more at moosh.pt, according to SRIJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Illegal gambling prevails in Portugal<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<strong><em>Portuguese Association of Online Gambling and Betting<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(APAJO) has released a new poll that shows that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/illegal-gambling-portugal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>more than half of online gambling is done through illegal sites<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. The survey indicates that 56% of nationally registered players bet through\u00a0licenced and unlicensed online\u00a0gambling\u00a0sites. But of these, only 6% bet exclusively through illegal websites and 44% do it on licensed sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recent survey, commissioned by APAJO from AXIMAGEM, included 609 effective interviews through which it was found that about 94% of registered players had already played for money in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>42% of the registrations were done before 2016 when the regulation of the sector came into force, APAJO said. The remaining 58% happened between 2016 and 2019, with 20% happening in 2018.
