{"id":14572,"date":"2021-02-11T16:11:06","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T16:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=14572"},"modified":"2026-04-23T21:52:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T00:52:53","slug":"rws-concerned-about-effect-of-chinas-gambling-crackdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/rws-concerned-about-effect-of-chinas-gambling-crackdown","title":{"rendered":"RWS concerned about effect of China&#8217;s gambling crackdown"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Resorts World Sentosa is concerned that China&#8217;s clampdown on cross-border gambling may impact its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore.- The parent company of <strong>Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) <\/strong>in <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-sees-results-from-efforts-to-rekindle-tourism\" target=\"_blank\">Singapore<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is concerned that <strong>China&#8217;s crackdown on cross-border gambling may have an impact on business.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China&#8217;s president Xi Jinping has ordered authorities to <strong>prevent citizens from travelling overseas to gamble, in a bid to keep capital circulating in China.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The People&#8217;s Republic is also <strong>threatening action against foreigners who market and organise international gambling trips from China,<\/strong> with severe penalties of up to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After releasing <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/genting-singapores-revenues-fall-90-in-2020\" target=\"_blank\">disappointing 2020 financial results<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, Genting Singapore has issued new guidance warning of the potential impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybank analyst, Yin Shao Yang, commented: &#8220;RWS was allowed to increase operating capacity from 50 percent to 65 percent from December 28, 2020.
