{"id":14279,"date":"2021-02-05T15:46:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T15:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=14279"},"modified":"2026-04-23T22:04:01","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T01:04:01","slug":"china-continues-to-target-cross-border-gambling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-continues-to-target-cross-border-gambling","title":{"rendered":"China continues to target cross-border gambling"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The country has amended its criminal code to make it illegal for anyone to assist others in cross-border gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>China.-\u00a0It seems<strong> China is determined to tackle cross-border gambling<\/strong>, both online gambling and gambling at casinos beyond China\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country has<strong> changed its criminal code <\/strong>to make it illegal for anyone to assist others in cross-border gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities appear to have declared a form of amnesty, affirming that those who <strong>confess to involvement in cross-border gambling before May, will be treated with leniency<\/strong> by China\u2019s Ministry of Public Security, the Supreme People\u2019s Court and the Supreme People\u2019s Procuratorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liao Jinrong, director of the international cooperation department at the ministry, said: &#8220;<strong>Our goal is to completely paralyse the soliciting networks by the gambling groups working outside our country<\/strong> that target our people, and we will not give up until we achieve our goal.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The targets for the government sanctions are casino operators, investors, managers or those that profit from casinos gaming rooms and gaming tables. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The authorities are also targeting the owners, providers and users of the online gaming sites and apps<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Liao Jinrong, <strong>police took legal action against 35,000 people involved in gambling activities in 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year the Chinese Standing Committee of the National People\u2019s Congress announced a proposed <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-could-criminalise-promotion-of-overseas-casinos\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>amendment that would criminalise the act of \u201cluring\u201d Chinese gamblers to overseas casinos<\/strong><\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The country has amended its criminal code to make it illegal for anyone to assist others in cross-border gambling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":14282,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"China has significantly escalated its regulatory enforcement against cross-border gambling by amending its criminal code to criminalize assistance in such activities.
