{"id":14197,"date":"2021-02-04T16:35:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-04T16:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=14197"},"modified":"2026-04-23T22:05:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T01:05:13","slug":"thai-lottery-office-aims-to-clamp-down-on-price-gougers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/thai-lottery-office-aims-to-clamp-down-on-price-gougers","title":{"rendered":"Thai Lottery Office aims to clamp down on price gougers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Government Lottery Office is offering cash rewards for information on lottery price gouging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Thailand.-\u00a0The Government Lottery Office (GLO) is out to get <strong>lottery price speculators<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has announced <strong>cash rewards of Bt1,000 (US$33.28) for anyone who provides information on price gouging<\/strong> and says it will also <strong>reward officers who make arrests<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the latter case, the amount of the reward will depend on the fine imposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The measure was announced by the GLO&#8217;s CEO, Boonsong Jantrisri. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jantrisri said: &#8220;We hope<strong> the cash reward will encourage people to become the eyes and ears for officials <\/strong>and consequentially stop sellers from raising the price above the legal limit.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>GLO will also review the current penalties for increasing lottery prices <\/strong>as they date from a 1974 act. It wants to increase fines to create a greater deterrent for would-be offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the last four years, <strong><strong>22,153 lottery price gougers<\/strong> have been arrested in the country<\/strong>, including 6,047 last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year Thailand\u2019s minister of Digital Economy and Society, Buddhipongse Punnakanta, announced that <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/thailand-shuts-down-1457-gambling-sites\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>his office had shut down 1,457 websites for offering online gambling<\/strong><\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government Lottery Office is offering cash rewards for information on lottery price gouging.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":176,"featured_media":14202,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The Government Lottery Office (GLO) in Thailand is implementing a cash reward system for information on lottery price gouging and reviewing outdated penalty frameworks to enhance market integrity.
