The figure does not include hotels being used for mandatory quarantine purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average hotel occupancy rate in Macau in <strong>2020<\/strong> reached <strong>28.6 per cent,<\/strong> down 62 percentage points against 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hotels and guest houses received 3,874,000 guests, down 72.5 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though only 47 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in Macau, and deaths have been reported, the SAR has been severely hit by the <strong>closure of borders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activity has picked up since September 23, when visitors from all the mainland were allowed to resume travel to Macau under <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-only-20-arrivals-for-gambling-purposes\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">individual and group visas<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, results are still disappointing for the industry, which fears <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-expects-fewer-tourists-for-cny-than-for-christmas\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">visitor numbers for the Chinese New Year<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/strong> holidays will be lower than those seen at Christmas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The average hotel occupancy rate in Macau reached 53.1 per cent in December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":13898,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's hotel occupancy rate reached 53.1% in December, marking its highest level since January 2020, prior to the full impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
