Bernstein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bernstein said that the <strong>decrease in the GGR <\/strong>is related to the tightening of the Covid-19 countermeasures in mainland China, as authorities extended mandated <strong>home quarantines, travel curbs and mass testing<\/strong> this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-asks-guangdong-residents-not-to-travel-for-new-year\" target=\"_blank\">Chinese government has taken new measures in an attempt to contain<\/a><\/em><\/strong> what has been the worst wave of Covid-19 infections in the country since March 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The measures come as <strong>Chinese New Year<\/strong> approaches, leading to fears that they could seriously impact potential visitation numbers in the SAR during the holiday period between February 11 and 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Bernstein, <strong>gross gaming revenue in Macau <\/strong>for the month so far reached approximately MOP5.9bn (US$739m) with month-to-date average daily rates at MOP246m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts wrote in a report: &#8220;Last week\u2019s ADR was the softest since the week after October Golden Week as customer travel has been reduced due to the rising Covid contagion and lockdowns in China.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Daily visitor arrivals to and departures from Macau have been in the mid-30,000s to low 40,000s per day [\u2026] We expect visitation to increase only slowly over the next months, assuming travel restrictions due to Covid are not increased&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The director of the <strong>Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)<\/strong>, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes has said that the city could see <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-expects-fewer-tourists-for-cny-than-for-christmas\" target=\"_blank\">lower arrivals during the Chinese New year period than at Christmas<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The impact of the new wave of infections in China has provoked a drop in GGR due to the lack of visitors in Macau, Bernstein says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":13761,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) has experienced a significant decline due to stringent COVID-19 countermeasures in mainland China, leading to reduced visitation, particularly impacting the crucial Chinese New Year holiday period.
