Malaysia.- Authorities in Malaysia have mandated the temporary closure of the Resorts World Genting (RWG) casino complex<\/strong> from Friday (January 22) until February 4 as part of Covid-19 countermeasures in light of a third wave of infections in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Malaysian government had already imposed a movement control order due to a rise in Covid-19 cases<\/strong>. The casino complex had so far been able to avoid total closure,<\/a><\/strong><\/em> instead announcing it would operate at a reduced capacity. <\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n However, the sanitary situation has pushed authorities to tighten measures further and a new order forces the closure of businesses in the Malaysian state of Pahang, where the hill resort of Genting Highlands is located near the capital of Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The casino resort, operated by Genting Malaysia Bhd, said that essential resort-based services at Resorts World Genting, including security, firefighting, utilities and clinics, would remain operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The resort said: \u201cWe regret any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of our resort.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Customers with a booking for the affected period can ask for a change of date or refund, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Malaysia’s Ministry of Health has reported that the country recorded 4,008 new Covid-19 cases during the 24-hour period up to noon on Wednesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The new cases brought the national tally of infections to 169,379.
