Macau.- Hotel prices in Macau fell by almost 50 per cent year-on-year in 2020<\/strong>, according to a report from the Statistics and Census Bureau. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Tourism was severely impacted by border restrictions in the city as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the Bureau, the Tourist Price Index for the fourth quarter of 2020 was down by 15.26 per cent<\/strong>, \u201cmainly due to the lower hotel room and clothing prices.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n The authorities added: \u201cThe price index for the accommodation section (-49.89 per cent) recorded the biggest year-on-year decrease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe price indices fell for clothing and footwear (-12.49 per cent), as well as entertainment and cultural activities (-7.56 per cent)”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a city that normally welcomes about three million visitors per month, the impact of border restrictions has been huge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n However, there has been a gradual improvement in the number of arrivals<\/strong>. According to the latest official figures, in November Macau received just over 600,000 visitors, down 78.1 per cent compared to the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But this was welcomed as good news after a year that registered only 5,237,441 visitors January to November, a drop of 85.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2019.
