India.- The Meghalaya Cabinet approved the rules for state lottery. The rules define how the lottery will be conducted in the state to help the state generate revenues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meghalaya had not have state Lottery since it was shut down in 2005, when the private vendor entrusted with operating the lottery failed to pay the local government the proper amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Home Minister James Sangma told reporters that from now on \u201cboth paper and online lottery will be introduced\u201d. This will enable participation by people from all the Indian states where lottery is legal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also, new rules implies that the taxation department will be on charge of working out details about the operations and tendering processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier this year, the Meghalaya state was also exploring the possibility of permitting licensed casinos in the state to fillip the state\u2019s tourism. If the proposal is put into action, the locals will be banned from entering and playing in casinos.
