{"id":13021,"date":"2021-01-05T09:09:49","date_gmt":"2021-01-05T09:09:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=13021"},"modified":"2026-04-23T22:57:44","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T01:57:44","slug":"video-lottery-sales-plummet-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/video-lottery-sales-plummet-in-china","title":{"rendered":"Video lottery sales plummet in China"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>China&#8217;s total lottery sales dropped 22 per cent year on year between January and November 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>China.- Lottery sales dropped 4.6 per cent year-on-year in November, to CNY36.04bn (US$5.58bn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country\u2019s Ministry of Finance attributed the fall to video lottery sales, which plummeted 80 per cent during the period to just CNY1,600 (US$247).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sports lottery sales represented CNY21.02bn (US$3.25bn) of the total but were down 0.2 per cent since compared with November 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital sports lottery sales were up 10.3 per cent during the period, while sales of sports betting games dropped 11.4 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The welfare lottery segment reported CNY15.02bn (US$2.32bn) representing a 10.1 per cent year-on-year decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instant win games sales grew 21.3 per cent year-on-year to CNY1.6bn (US$247bn). Keno reported the biggest growth and amounted to CNY3.4m (US$526,146)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between January and November of 2020, lottery sales dropped 22 per cent compared with the same period in 2019, and totalled CNY297.44bn (US$46bn). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Welfare lottery sales were down 25.1 per cent and sports lottery sales 19.4 per cent during the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-new-limits-on-sports-lotteries\">New limits on sports lotteries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 1 November 2020, every Chinese province, autonomous region or municipality will be allowed to operate <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/limits-on-sports-lotteries-begin-taking-effect-in-china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">only one quick-draw<\/a><\/em><\/strong> for virtual sports lotteries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent joint notice from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the General Administration of Sport announced the restrictions on sales of quick-draw welfare lottery games and high frequency sports lottery games.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the 2021 annual Spring Festival holiday, all high-frequency quick-open games will be stopped.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China&#8217;s total lottery sales dropped 22 per cent year on year between January and November 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":13024,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"China's lottery sector experienced a significant GGR decline of 22% year-on-year from January to November 2020, primarily driven by an 80% plummet in video lottery sales and a 25.1% drop in welfare lottery.
