{"id":12272,"date":"2020-12-01T22:43:23","date_gmt":"2020-12-01T22:43:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=12272"},"modified":"2026-04-23T23:35:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T02:35:25","slug":"china-lottery-sales-fall-sequentially-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-lottery-sales-fall-sequentially-in-october","title":{"rendered":"China lottery sales fall sequentially in October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sales improved 11.5% year-on-year but were bellow September\u2019s results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>China.- Lottery sales in China totalled RMB30.7bn (US$4.8bn) in October, up 11.5 per cent year-on-year but down by RMB5bn in comparison to <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/chinese-lottery-sales-show-improvement\" target=\"_blank\">September\u2019s sales<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sports lottery segment did better in October, reaching sales of RMB18.4bn, up 24 per cent from September, while the welfare segment fell 3.2 per cent sequentially, to RMB12.3bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the numbers released by China\u2019s Ministry of Finance, year to date lottery sales accumulated a 23.9 per cent decline compared to the same period in 2019, totalling RMB261.4bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The China Sports Lottery and China Welfare Lottery are the only fully legal forms of gambling in mainland China. Proceeds are intended for use in public welfare projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The welfare segment saw a 26.7 per cent decline in the first 10 months of the year, while sports lottery revenue fell by 21.5 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lottery sales in November are very likely to show a decrease, especially in the sports lottery segment, since as of November 1 every Chinese province, autonomous region or municipality will be allowed to operate <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/limits-on-sports-lotteries-begin-taking-effect-in-china\" target=\"_blank\">only one quick-draw<\/a><\/em><\/strong> for virtual sports-related lotteries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sales improved 11.5% year-on-year but were bellow September\u2019s results.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":12274,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"China's lottery sales reached RMB30.7bn in October, marking an 11.5% year-on-year increase but a sequential decline from September.
