In the first 10 months of 2020 casino revenue was down 81.4 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has also said that it will encourage operators to \u201cextend non-gambling correlative activities\u201d in line with its long term goal of <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-operators-may-host-two-sports-events-per-year\" target=\"_blank\">diversifying Macau\u2019s economy<\/a><\/em><\/strong> through boosting sports activities and other large events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The secretary told the Macau assembly: \u201cA single industry gives rise to a single source of employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u201cFor this reason, we urgently need to foster the diversification of the economy in order to gradually overcome the problem of the predominance of a single industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that 75 per cent of Macau\u2019s gross domestic product is generated from the gambling sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities plan to publish specifications for bidders in 2021 and will recommend that operators extend non-gambling activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":12204,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau authorities confirm the casino license renewal tender will proceed in 2022, with specifications for bidders to be published in 2021, despite pandemic-induced revenue declines.
