{"id":12072,"date":"2020-11-24T21:31:38","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T21:31:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=12072"},"modified":"2026-04-23T23:49:04","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T02:49:04","slug":"macau-gaming-jobs-drop-slightly-in-q2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-jobs-drop-slightly-in-q2","title":{"rendered":"Macau gaming jobs drop slightly in Q2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The average salary in the gaming sector was down by 5.5 per cent in June compared to the same month in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The number of full-time employees at gaming companies in Macau decreased by almost one\u00a0per cent in the second quarter compared to the  same period in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The local Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) revealed that the tally for full-time employees dropped by 381, to 57,459 people, with female employees making up 57.7 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shift working employees accounted for 94.4 per cent. This segment of the workforce was also down by 1.1 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salaries were down by 5.5 per cent year-on0-year, excluding bonuses. The average salary was MOP23,200 (US$2,905) a month. Resident and non-resident employees earned an average of MOP23,370 and MOP19,830 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revealing the results of the Q2 Survey on Manpower Needs and Wages in the gaming sector, the DSEC stated: \u201cOwing to the impact of novel coronavirus pneumonia, there were only 25 vacancies at the end of the second quarter, down significantly by 879 year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAmong the vacancies, 68 per cent required work experience, 76 per cent required tertiary education, and requirement for knowledge of Mandarin and English both stood at 88 per cent.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of dealers stood at 25,344, up by 131 year-on-year but down by 115 from the end of the fourth quarter of 2019. Dealers&#8217; average earnings fell by 7.6 per cent year-on-year to MOP19,270 (US$2,413).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The New Macau Gaming Staff Rights Association has said that about 20,000 casino workers are <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/20000-macau-casino-workers-underemployed\" target=\"_blank\">currently underemployed<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, on unpaid leave and facing welfare cuts.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The average salary in the gaming sector was down by 5.5 per cent in June compared to the same month in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":12074,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's gaming sector experienced a significant downturn in Q2, with average salaries decreasing by 5.5% and full-time employment dropping by nearly 1% year-on-year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
