{"id":12069,"date":"2020-11-24T21:42:36","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T21:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=12069"},"modified":"2026-04-23T23:48:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T02:48:25","slug":"visits-to-macau-up-almost-30-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/visits-to-macau-up-almost-30-in-october","title":{"rendered":"Visits to Macau up almost 30% in October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Visitation is still down by 81.9 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The Golden Week celebration, the Macau GP and the local Food Festival helped increase visitation to the city in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Macau Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) says that the number of arrivals grew by 29.6 per cent month-to-month to 581,986 in October 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The figure is still down by 81.9 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overnight visitors and same-day visitors totalled 308,222 and 273,764 respectively, the DSEC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average length of stay went up by 0.2 days year-on-year to 1.4 days. The average length of stay of overnight visitors (2.7 days) rose by 0.3 days year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In October, there were 37,909 visitors from Hong Kong and 4,574 from Taiwan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of visitors from mainland China was down 77 per cent year-on-year at 539,482, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) amounting to only 174,002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to a rise in Covid-19 cases, authorities in Macau have decided to impose <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-quarantine-for-arrivals-from-more-chinese-cities\" target=\"_blank\">quarantine on visitors<\/a><\/em><\/strong> coming from some areas in China. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first ten months of 2020, the number of visitor arrivals to Macau declined by 86.2 per cent year-on-year to 4,601,090.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The slow increase in visitation is in part due to a strategy of attracting larger international crowds to the city through organising big events such as the <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gp-biggest-increase-in-visitors-in-nine-months\" target=\"_blank\">Macau Grand Prix<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, which took place last week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Visitation is still down by 81.9 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":12071,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau experienced a 29.6% month-on-month increase in October 2020 visitor arrivals, reaching 581,986, attributed to events like Golden Week and the Macau GP.
