New\u00a0Zealand.-\u00a0A year after a\u00a0fire destroyed its convention centre in\u00a0Auckland,\u00a0SkyCity\u00a0reached a milestone this week when its new\u00a0air bridge was lifted into place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 85-tonne, 30m-long pedestrian bridge was built near Palmerston North and brought in at night.\u00a0It\u00a0connects the convention centre\u2019s hotel with the casino over Hobson Street, 11 meters above the ground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An accidental fire destroyed the upper floors and roof at the\u00a0SkyCity\u00a0Convention\u00a0Centre\u00a0in October 2019<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. The reconstruction is set to finish by 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SkyCity\u00a0also announced this week the opening of its new\u00a0bar and live music venue, Flare, at the heart of its Auckland casino.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Operating Officer Michael Ahearne says Flare is a casually elegant bar and lounge combining the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas with the down-to-earth service and hospitality of New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It represents an\u00a0AU$50 million (US$35.6 million) upgrade of\u00a0SkyCity\u00a0Auckland, which for now will be aimed at domestic customers<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flare will be launched with a VIP party on Friday October 30.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company said: “SkyCity\u00a0is proud to be working with the New Zealand music industry to support and showcase local talent, still feeling the effects of Covid-19 related cancellations and postponements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
