Macau.- The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has reported that hotel occupancy for September reached 16.4 per cent, a slight increase on the 12 per cent reported for August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the numbers are considerably lower than the 87.3 per cent reported for the same month last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The highest occupancy rate was reported in 4-star hotels, at 26.7 per cent, followed by 3-star hotels at 22.1 per cent and 5-star hotels at just 12.6 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hotel sector has reported an overall 19.8 per cent occupancy rate between January and September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It had been expected hotels might see an increase in the tally of visitors from September, when individual tourist visas for Chinese residents resumed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, despite the loosening of border measures, the number of visitors, even this month during the Golden Week holiday, did not recover as much as hoped. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A total of 153,600 visitor arrivals were reported, with a daily average of 19,538, which represents an 86 per cent fall year-on-year<\/p>\n\n\n\n
