{"id":11045,"date":"2020-10-20T06:46:27","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T06:46:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=11045"},"modified":"2026-04-24T00:50:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T03:50:43","slug":"macau-visitors-for-fy2020-will-be-down-by-90","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-visitors-for-fy2020-will-be-down-by-90","title":{"rendered":"Macau: visitors for FY2020 will be down by 90%"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Macao Government Tourism Office expects visitor numbers to remain down by 90% against 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- According to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the final tally of visitor numbers for the full year 2020 could well remain down by 90 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MGTO director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, said:  \u201cWe estimated that\u2026 compared with last year, the decline for this year should be over 90 per cent&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first eight months of this year, just above 3.57\u00a0million\u00a0visitors entered Macau, a year-on-year\u00a0decline of 87 per cent, according to data released in late September. Despite expectations, Golden Week saw little recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau\u2019s casino gross gaming revenue\u00a0for the first\u00a0nine\u00a0months of 2020 stood at nearly MOP38.61 billion (US$4.8 billion),\u00a0down 82.5 per cent\u00a0from the same period in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the fall, the MGTO said the priority of the government was to preserve local people&#8217;s health. MGTO&#8217;s director said: \u201cThe public also would not want to see us relaxing too easily our entry restrictions, because they are still concerned about the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only visitors from mainland China and Hong Kong can currently enter Macau.
