{"id":11022,"date":"2020-10-19T21:45:55","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T21:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=11022"},"modified":"2026-04-24T00:51:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T03:51:19","slug":"crown-to-face-austrac-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/crown-to-face-austrac-investigation","title":{"rendered":"Crown to face AUSTRAC investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The regulator is questioning compliance procedures at Crown&#8217;s Melbourne casino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.-&nbsp;The Australian anti-money-laundering regulator, AUSTRAC, has initiated an investigation into Crown Resorts\u2019 compliance processes at its Melbourne casino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AUSTRAC\u2019s regulatory operations branch said it had identified potential non-compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 and the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Rules 2007.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator said this &#8220;includes concerns in relation to ongoing customer due diligence, and adopting, maintaining and complying with an anti-money laundering\/counter-terrorism financing program.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to AUSTRAC, its concerns began after a&nbsp;compliance assessment in September 2019, which raised questions on Crown Melbourne\u2019s management of \u201ccustomers identified as high-risk and politically exposed persons.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AUSTRAC said the operators was fully cooperating with its investigation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crown faced multiple questions over its compliance processes at&nbsp;the&nbsp;inquiry conducted by the NSW Independent Liquor &amp; Gaming Authority (ILGA).
