{"id":10782,"date":"2020-10-10T17:57:33","date_gmt":"2020-10-10T17:57:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=10782"},"modified":"2026-04-24T01:05:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T04:05:39","slug":"crown-resorts-faces-probe-in-second-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/crown-resorts-faces-probe-in-second-state","title":{"rendered":"Crown Resorts faces probe in second state"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Victoria will also probe Crown&#8217;s lack of controls on junket customers while NSW takes a decision on its Barangaroo licence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.-&nbsp;A day after casino billionaire James Packer finished his statement to New South Wales&#8217; hearing, another Australian gaming regulator has started its own inquiry into Crown Resorts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) is to probe why Crown Resorts did not apply necessary controls on junket customers at its Melbourne casino and served Chinese VIPs with links to organised crime.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The VCGLR says that depending on Crown\u2019s response, it will rule whether the firm must&nbsp;self-correct&nbsp;its actions or if it should be fined.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its inquiry begins as NSW will now decide whether Crown is fit to keep its licence for the new casino it is developing n&nbsp;Barangaroo, Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Packer, who no longer has an executive position or a place on the board, still holds 37 per cent of Crown\u2019s stock. He said this week that he is <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/packer-might-have-to-sell-crown-stake\" target=\"_blank\">ready to sell<\/a><\/em><\/strong> part of it and never return to the board as long as the firm is allowed to retain its licence.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A decision is expected to be made by February 2021.
