(PAGCOR) has warned the public about illegal gambling being promoted through social media and urged Facebook to take action.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a post on its own Facebook profile, PAGCOR congratulated the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) for busting an illegal online bingo operation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PAGCOR said it has been monitoring social media since the beginning of the pandemic and has detected an increase in illegal gambling operations being promoted,\u00a0especially\u00a0on Facebook.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chinese social media platforms have been <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-social-media-gambling\" target=\"_blank\">working with the government<\/a><\/em><\/strong> to combat illegal gambling activities, but although PAGCOR says it has raised its concerns with Facebook in the past, it says it has never received a response from the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To aid the PNP-ACG efforts, <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/pagcor.ph\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">PAGCOR<\/a><\/em><\/strong> said it planned to enlist the Philippines&#8217; central bank, Bangko\u00a0Sentral\u00a0ng Pilipinas (BSP), and the country\u2019s Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) to investigate banks, remittance services and payment solutions being used to fund illegal operations promoted through social media.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator said illegal gambling activities often involve cases of fraud and swindling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The regulator says it has seen an increase in illegal gambling operations promoted through social media during the pandemic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":10363,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
