{"id":10339,"date":"2020-09-25T07:06:56","date_gmt":"2020-09-25T07:06:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=10339"},"modified":"2026-04-24T01:31:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T04:31:09","slug":"singapore-tourism-recovery-will-take-5-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-tourism-recovery-will-take-5-years","title":{"rendered":"Singapore: tourism recovery will take 5 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>According to the chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, it will take &#8220;many years&#8221; to return to pre-Covid-19 levels of visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore.- Keith Tan, the chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has predicted that it could take up to five years for a full recovery of tourism in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local media, Keith Tan said: \u201cIt will take many years, possibly three to five years, for international visitor arrivals to return to 2019 pre-Covid-19 levels&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He discussed the situation of the tourism industry after the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic during an online conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without foreign visitors, the city-state\u2019s two casino complexes, Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa, have already been working on options to balance their numbers by marketing hotel facilities to domestic customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government announced this week measures for phase three in its reopening. Gathering sizes will still be limited, and masks must be worn on public transport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This stage would also involve Singapore \u201cgradually\u201d reopening its borders, \u201cfor Singaporeans to conduct essential activities overseas and to allow safe travel for foreigners entering or transiting through Singapore\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to STB\u00a0data for the calendar year to July 31, visitor arrivals fell to\u00a02.7 million, down 76 per cent year-on-year.
